She has since leveraged her knowledge and breakthroughs to help others navigate their journeys back to health. Dr. Madera has provided over 25 years of quality care across a variety of healthcare settings as a pharmacist and as a licensed practical nurse. Her expertise in Ambulatory Care, Inpatient Pharmacy, Medication Therapy Management, Population Care Management, and Functional Medicine informs the patient consultations that she provides as a Consultant Pharmacist for Elevance Health. Dr. Madera has successfully helped patients identify, resolve and prevent medication-related problems. She is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Dr. Madera is a 2007 graduate of the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy and completed residency training at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. In 2011, she attended Food as Medicine: Integrating Nutrition into Clinical Practice, Medical Education and Community Health. This training confirmed her belief that optimized nutrition is the springboard for improved health and wellness. She has since sought functional medicine and nutrition education from a variety of conferences and educational programs. Dr. Madera has completed the foundational course, Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) and is on track to receive certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine. She also founded The Integrative Rx, LLC to provide functional medicine and pharmacy consultation services.
Dr. Madera’s personal functional medicine journey began in 2011 when she experienced unresolving severe fatigue, joint and muscle pain, weight gain and depression. Her health challenges included small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), fungal/candida overgrowth (SIFO), intestinal permeability (leaky gut), imbalanced gut bacteria, food intolerances, frequent and severe migraine headaches, and nutritional deficiencies. Through functional medicine approaches, she reversed most of her symptoms. After dedicating much time and effort to heal and nourish her gut and nervous system, she can now focus her efforts towards utilizing sustainable approaches to achieve her physical fitness and body composition goals.
Dr. Madera recently relocated from Oceanside, California to Florida with her son and her two Boston Terriers, Hank and Beau. Although she is a city girl at heart, she loves spending time outdoors and enjoys hiking, rowing, spinning, and practicing yoga. Dr. Madera is a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserve and the Florida Army National Guard.
